Profile overview:

  • As a Data Scientist at Interclypse, you will assume a central role in designing and implementing data-driven solutions that address federal mission priorities. In this position, you will be responsible for coordinating efforts to gather and process vast amounts of structured and unstructured data from a variety of sources. This entails developing data ingestion pipelines, executing data cleansing and normalization routines, and applying statistical techniques to extract actionable insights. You will collaborate closely with engineers, domain experts, and end users to translate business or mission requirements into technical specifications, ensuring solutions align with stakeholder needs. Your day-to-day responsibilities will involve selecting and applying appropriate algorithms for tasks such as classification, regression, clustering, and anomaly detection. You will also develop visualization tools or dashboards that effectively communicate findings to non-technical audiences, enabling decision-makers to act on evidence-based recommendations. A key facet of this role is staying current with advancements in machine learning frameworks, data management platforms, and cloud services. By crafting innovative approaches to semantic data extraction and predictive modeling, you will help Interclypse maintain its reputation for delivering cutting-edge analytics solutions. Moreover, you will participate in code reviews, contribute to the enhancement of best practices, and mentor junior team members, thereby strengthening the overall data science capability within the organization.

Qualifications:

  • Education:

    • Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. degree in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Applied Statistics, Machine Learning, Data Science, Operations Research, Computer Science, or a related quantitative discipline is required.

  • Technical expertise:

    • Proficiency in SQL-based relational databases. Familiarity with PostgreSQL or Amazon Aurora for designing and querying data models, creating optimized schemas, and performing complex joins and aggregations.

    • Strong programming experience using languages such as R, Python, or Java. Ability to develop, test, and maintain production-quality scripts and applications for data processing, statistical analysis, and algorithm development.

    • Practical knowledge of NoSQL databases, such as MongoDB or Accumulo, including an understanding of document-oriented storage, indexing strategies, and performance considerations for non-relational data models.

  • Cloud and operating systems:

    • Hands-on experience working in cloud computing environments like AWS or Azure. Ability to deploy, manage, and optimize data pipelines, storage buckets, and computing clusters in a distributed setting.

    • Familiarity with Linux-based operating systems. Comfortable navigating command-line interfaces, managing file systems, writing shell scripts, and handling permissions and user roles in a multi-user environment.

  • Analytical and problem-solving skills:

    • Deep understanding of statistical and mathematical concepts. Capability to design experiments, apply inferential statistics, and derive meaningful conclusions from complex datasets.

    • Proficiency in developing and implementing data processing algorithms. Experience with crafting data transformation logic for cleansing, normalizing, and feature engineering to prepare datasets for modeling.

    • Ability to conceptualize and articulate strategies for extracting semantic value from large collections of heterogeneous data, leveraging techniques such as natural language processing, graph-based methods, or semantic annotation.

  • Interpersonal and communication skills:

    • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities. Comfortable presenting technical findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, producing clear documentation, and collaborating across cross-functional teams.

    • Strong teamwork orientation. Willingness to engage with data scientists, software engineers, program managers, and end users, demonstrating flexibility and professionalism in a dynamic environment.

    • Persistence and resilience when facing challenging problems. Ability to work independently or as part of a team to iterate through multiple solutions until achieving the desired outcome.

  • Additional capabilities:

    • Familiarity with RESTful API design and implementation. Experience creating endpoints, handling authentication, and integrating data services through HTTP-based interactions.

    • Understanding of data catalogs, metadata management, and best practices for data governance, enabling standardized access and retrieval of information across projects.

    • Experience with data visualization tools such as Tableau or building custom dashboards using libraries like Plotly or D3.js to facilitate intuitive exploration of analytical results.

    • Knowledge of RDF/OWL, SPARQL, or other Semantic Web technologies. Ability to model domain knowledge, ontologies, or taxonomies to support advanced reasoning and knowledge representation.

    • Experience with distributed computing frameworks like Hadoop and MapReduce. Familiarity with job scheduling, cluster resource management, and performance tuning for large-scale data processing tasks.

    • Exposure to advanced machine learning libraries and frameworks, including TensorFlow or PyTorch. Capability to design, train, and deploy deep learning models for tasks like image recognition, natural language processing, or time-series forecasting.

    • Understanding of Spark or similar big data analytics platforms. Ability to write efficient distributed data processing code, optimize memory and compute resources, and implement scalable data processing pipelines.

    • Experience or interest in contributing to a culture of continuous improvement. Willingness to engage in code reviews, maintain version control, and adopt agile methodologies to enhance project delivery and team productivity.
