The Data Operations Analyst Intern role is a specialized, high-impact position designed to support Instawork’s Field Operations (FO) division.
The primary objective is handling, structuring, and optimizing crucial operational data related to geographic markets, field territories, business locations, and worker coverage schedules.
Interns build, update, and manage sophisticated spreadsheets and route planning tools that ensure field teams operate with maximum efficiency.
Responsible for organizing location assets, validating field addresses, setting visit frequencies, establishing territorial boundaries, and prioritizing account coverage.
Collaborates with operations leads to structure geographic route maps, apply spatial logic, and optimize drive times and stop schedules for on-ground personnel.
Generates actionable daily and weekly planning master sheets detailing visit orders, target locations, individual stop priorities, and operational key performance indicators.
Continuously audits territory assignments to identify coverage bottlenecks, unassigned accounts, overdue visits, and geographic imbalances within active markets.
Maintains rigorous documentation for all data sources, mapping assumptions, manual inputs, and version histories across operational workbooks.
Engages in active feedback loops with field operatives and senior leadership to refine spreadsheet usability, mapping precision, and data accuracy.
Offers hands-on, deep-dive experience in hyper-growth marketplace operations, logistics planning, data hygiene practices, and spatial dataset management.
Operates fully onsite from the Bengaluru office under a structured performance framework featuring clear deliverables, regular feedback, and performance incentives.
Qualifications
High proficiency in Microsoft Excel techniques including advanced formulas such as XLOOKUP, VLOOKUP, INDEX-MATCH, SUMIFS, COUNTIFS, IF, and complex date logic.
Expertise in creating dynamic Excel pivot tables, named ranges, conditional formatting rules, custom drop-downs, and data validation parameters.
Demonstrated capability in data hygiene, including deduplication, filtering massive datasets, standardizing raw address formats, and resolving data anomalies.
Strong spatial reasoning and geographic mindset with the ability to group locations effectively by proximity, postal codes, zones, and travel times.
High attention to detail with a proven track record of thorough double-checking, preventing operational errors before schedules reach field teams.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly document workbook logic and articulate spatial planning rationale to stakeholders.
Proven reliability in meeting strict daily deadlines, executing standard operating procedures (SOPs), and processing feedback quickly.
Familiarity with secondary spreadsheet tools and data preparation environments such as Google Sheets and Excel Power Query for importing and cleaning data.
Working knowledge of mapping platforms and route optimization software, including Google My Maps, QGIS, or route planning APIs.
Foundational SQL skills or strong comfort extracting, converting, and analyzing data exported from administrative dashboards, databases, and CSV files.
Prior internship or project exposure in field sales operations, logistics execution, delivery route design, supply chain mapping, or operational analytics.
Fundamental understanding of international market geography, specifically United States and Canadian metropolitan layout structures and multi-city territory design.

Executes daily operational updates by ingesting the latest marketplace data inputs into planning models and promptly resolving field error tickets.
Delivers weekly territory balance reviews, route efficiency reports, structural change summaries, and action plans for unassigned market segments.
Upholds high-quality standards by delivering reproducible, error-free, user-friendly spreadsheets designed for non-technical field operators to navigate seamlessly.
