The Consumer Tooling team's mission is to deliver a best-in-class home buying and selling experience by enabling a seamless process and providing intelligent capabilities and tools to Opendoor operators and agents.

As a Staff Software Engineer, you will:

  • Define and guide the team's technical strategies, vision, decisions, and architecture for a simple, certain customer experience.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams and product managers, understanding their needs and building tooling features aligning with the larger platform vision.
  • Mentor backend and frontend engineers in system design, technical decisions, and project management.
  • Contribute to all software development phases with a focus on action, long-term maintainability, and scalability.
  • Partner with your engineering and product managers to define the roadmap, advocating for platform adoption and technical excellence.

We're looking for teammates who have:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent training/experience.
  • Approximately 12+ years of solving platform-level problems across the stack, delivering production-quality software systems.
  • Excellent communication skills, crucial for remote team collaboration and cross-functional partnerships.
  • Strong sense of ownership and customer empathy to create a seamless customer experience.
  • Strong engineering fundamentals, with transferable experience in coding, debugging, scaling services, and designing/architecting software systems.
  • Proven expertise in technology, ideally full-stack development experience with React, GraphQL, Ruby, Golang, ElasticSearch, and PostgresSQL.
