This role sits in the Model Risk Management Group within the Global Risk and Compliance unit of American Express.

The team oversees models used across the company and reviews whether they meet internal and regulatory quality standards.

The person joining this position will manage risk around machine learning models including advanced AI and language model related systems that American Express plans to use in the future.

You will review how the models are created, how they impact business decisions, how they are monitored and how results are interpreted.

The work includes challenging how the models perform, what assumptions are used and whether the methodology is suitable for real business problems.

This position requires understanding of predictive modeling, machine learning techniques, probability concepts and coding skills.

Qualifications

Bachelor or Master in Data Science, Computer Science, Machine Learning, Statistics, Mathematics, Economics or closely related fields.

Candidates with business degrees such as MBA are also suitable if they possess strong analytical thinking and understanding of quantitative analysis.

Experience of up to three years in any of these areas is suitable: analytics, modeling, data science, machine learning or model risk management.

Strong hands on experience working with tools such as Python or R or Java is preferred.

Exposure to machine learning methods such as decision trees, random forest, gradient boosting, neural networks or reinforcement learning is beneficial.

Ability to work with structured and unstructured data is important.

Understanding of developing and validating predictive models is helpful.

Strong presentation skills are required to share results with business partners and senior management.

Ability to complete work under short timelines and handle simultaneous projects.
