Profile overview
As an Applied Scientist I at Amazon, you will translate challenging real-world e-commerce and operational business questions into well-defined mathematical models and algorithms.
You will design, build, and deploy production-ready code that powers high-impact applications utilizing machine learning, natural language processing, computer vision, or robotics.
Your day-to-day work involves executing systematic scientific experiments, evaluating model efficacy against rigorous metrics, benchmarking against current research literature, and pushing maintainable code to production systems.
You will work alongside seasoned scientists and software developers, authoring internal technical documents, contributing to scientific papers, and guiding research interns within a collaborative engineering environment.
Qualifications
Educational background or equivalent foundation in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Machine Learning, Data Science, or related quantitative disciplines.
Hands-on proficiency in core software programming languages such as Python, C++, Java, or related object-oriented languages.
Demonstrated working knowledge of relational database management systems (RDBMS) like Oracle, along with hands-on SQL query writing experience.
Practical knowledge of data structures, algorithm implementation, and software engineering best practices for building stable, secure, and maintainable code bases.
Familiarity with training, tuning, and evaluating statistical machine learning models or deep learning architectures using standard scientific frameworks and self-developed code algorithms.
Strong written and verbal technical communication skills to document experimental methodologies, collaborate across functional boundaries, and present scientific discoveries.
Additional info
Applicants with a strong portfolio of academic publications in top-tier peer-reviewed artificial intelligence or computer science conferences and journals are highly valued.
Prior experience implementing custom machine learning frameworks using both off-the-shelf software packages and self-developed code is preferred.
